Biography

Wim van Cappellen received his MSc degree in 1998 from Delft University of Technology and joined Signaal Delft (currently Thales Nederland) to investigate innovative radar concepts. In 2001 he started at Astron, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy, to design one of the Lofar antennas. He’s been leading the recent Phased Array Feed upgrade of the Westerbork telescope and is heading the Radio Group, which performs the research and development of the antennas and analog systems up to the ADC. He’s also leading an international consortium that is developing L-band phased array antennas for the Square Kilometre Array.
