After studying industrial design at Delft University of Technology and electronics at the HTS Rijswijk, Noud Maas received his PhD in 1986. In his first years at TNO he designed state-of-the-art low-noise microwave oscillators. From 1990 to 2003 he designed GaAs-MMICs working up to 60 GHz and he started designing low-cost FMCW radar sensor front-ends for industrial use in 1995. Since 2005 he has been focusing on the complete architecture of radar systems, taking antenna and signal processing into account, based on specific use cases. In 2008, he received the prize for ‘most innovative employee’ at TNO Defense & Safety. He is author/coauthor of several international publications and patents.
