Maarten Paulides studied electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology and obtained his PhD in medical electromagnetics at Erasmus University in 2007 (cum laude) on the development of an RF hyperthermia applicator to treat cancers of the head and neck. In 2016, he was appointed leader of the new research pillar of the Radiotherapy department on biology image guided radiotherapy and he serves in the EMF committee of the Dutch Health Council and the HF committee of ICNRIP/WHO. His current research is focused on elucidating aberrant molecular and physiological properties of tumours using MRI aimed at guidance of radio and thermal therapy. He was recipient of several prestigious awards, amongst others a Veni scholarship of STW/NWO (2010) and an EUR fellowship in 2016. Finally, he is advisor of Sensius, a startup company aimed at providing solutions for computer simulation guided hyperthermia treatment.
