World-class 12 bit 12 GS/s or 14 bit 7.2 GS/s RF digital to analog converter

This talk reviews the design of a RF signal generator on a chip. We’ll present a complete signal generator with integrated digital-to-analog converter (DAC) on a chip that can generate complex waveforms at up to 7.2 GS/s with 14 bit resolution or at up to 12 GS/s with 12 bit resolution. This chip includes DSP for analog impairment correction and agile generation of wideband modulated RF signals. With this DAC, RF signals with wideband complex modulation can be generated directly with no need for phase-locked loops, frequency multipliers or upconverting mixers. Further, the switching speed of this DAC-based source is orders of magnitude faster than sources based on traditional block diagrams.
