Low-power 400/460 MHz transceiver ASIC for global wildlife tracking

Artic is a radio transceiver ASIC for communication with the Argos satellite system targeting global wildlife tracking applications. The ASIC integrates all RF and baseband processing functions for all Argos standards, including the upcoming Argos 4 standard. In Argos 3 receiver mode, a -128 dBm sensitivity level is demonstrated. The transmitter includes a 250 mW class-E power amplifier and supports BPSK, QPSK and GMSK modulation. The ASIC is realized in a 180 nm CMOS technology and measures 21 mm². The Artic ASIC is now enabling a new generation of sub-5 gram small size tags.
