Increasing launching options for Dutch semiconductor start-ups
The Netherlands has a high-quality ecosystem for (fabless) semiconductor start-ups. The ecosystem includes top universities and professors, research labs, manufacturing facilities as well as the #10 on the list of worldwide semiconductor manufacturers. Despite this rich ecosystem, it continues to be very difficult for teams to successfully launch semiconductor start-ups. If the ecosystem is present, what’s holding them back? The answer is not a simple “money”… There is (venture capital) money but it’s not easy to get to. In addition, the venture capital trail, if found, almost immediately leads to a destination outside of the Netherlands and, every so often, outside of Europe. This effect, in combination with the general aversion of the venture capital industry against hardware-related products and services has limited Dutch semiconductor ventures. How to improve the options and opportunities for semiconductor startups? Come and listen!
