5G RFIC design challenges and opportunities

Over the past decade, cellular RF technology has evolved rapidly to achieve amazing levels of performance and integration. Of course, 5G will be more amazing still. Soon, it will be normal to have multi-gigabit connections in urban areas around the world from your mobile device. Delivering this capability has required lots of innovation in RF architectures and circuits. There is no sign that this evolution will slow down anytime soon. To start with, this talk will consider some of the economic and technical drivers behind the rapid cellular radio architecture evolution from 4G into 5G. We’ll then explore examples of the technologies deployed to turn these amazingly complex RF architectures into neat RF ICs.
